Hey everyone, here’s a quick update on what happened on World Pulses Day at Shaheed Dweep!
On February 23rd, 2025, Prophetess Priya Ministries marked World Pulses Day by organizing a small event at the Panchayat Hall, Niel Kendra, Shaheed Dweep. The main goal was simple but meaningful—spreading awareness about the importance of pulses in our diet, especially for those who can’t always afford meat for protein. We also wanted to take a moment to recognize and thank our local farmers, whose hard work has always played a vital role in keeping our island self-sustainable.
Around 81 families and 5 elderly farmers showed up for the event. Everyone received free pulses and grains, thanks to our Founder & Patron, Smti. Priya Basu, who initiated the distribution drive. It was heartwarming to see so many smiling faces heading back home with bags full of essentials.
The event also had a few guests who took the time to talk to us. Dr. Lt. Col. Nirmal Kumar Bajpayee (CMO I/c of PHC Shaheed Dweep) shared some useful insights on how including pulses in our daily meals can improve health. Smti. Pinky Das, our Pradhan, appreciated the efforts of the organization and highlighted how much more non-profits can do in rural areas like ours.
Some familiar faces joined in too—Shri Bimal Kumar Roy (Former Pradhan & National Youth Awardee), our current Zilla Parishad member, officials from the police, agriculture, forest, and APWD departments, and of course, the 5 elder farmers we honored that day.
Everyone who helped make this event a success—including Smti. Abha John (General Secretary), Smti. M.G. Valleria (Joint Secretary), and Shri V. Vishal Rao (Treasurer)—was acknowledged during the event. Smti. Valleria welcomed the guests warmly, and Smti. Priya Basu expressed her heartfelt thanks to all who supported and attended.
We wrapped things up with a quick photo session with all the happy recipients, and the State Transport Service (thanks to a special request by the Pradhan) arranged buses to drop them home safely.
Thanks to everyone who was part of it—whether you attended, volunteered, or just sent us your support. Let’s continue working together to uplift our community!
